The Ordinary is an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. Its offering is pioneering, not in the familiar technologies it uses, but in its honesty and integrity. The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is “Clinical formulations with integrity”.

The Ordinary is a brand from DECIEM. We are an umbrella of brands focused on advanced functional beauty. Our team is specialized in materials chemistry and biochemistry, and we have brought pioneering innovation in skincare through our core brands, Hylamide and NIOD. In the category of functional beauty, integrity is rare. Commonplace technologies are referred to as groundbreaking and insensible pricing strategies confuse the audience, disguising commodity technologies as advanced. The Ordinary exists to communicate with integrity and bring to market effective, more familiar technologies at honourable prices. The Ordinary takes pride in honesty, fights innovation stagnancy in the industry and indirectly celebrates the depth of innovation our brands, Hylamide and NIOD, continue to bring to the category.

Topical Vitamin C offers a wide array of benefits to the skin. However, many forms of Vitamin C and many more formulations of Vitamin C are available commercially with a potential to confuse the audience.

The guide offers guidance on the formulations of Vitamin C offered under The Ordinary range. It also offers education on Vitamin C itself and on the differences between formulations of Vitamin C at large.

The Ordinary Retinols & Retinoids

There are 6 different Retinols & Retinoids to choose from that all have different strengths. For newbies the Granactive Retinoid 2% or 2% in Squalane is a good place to start. I would recommend only purchasing 1 of these products to start. You would start with the lowest strength and build up to the strongest.

Which Oridnary Retinol is the strongest?

Retinol 0.2% in Squalane (Low Strength, Moderate Irritation)
Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, High Irritation)
Retinol 1% in Squalane (High Strength, Very High Irritation)

Which Ordinary Retinoid is the strongest?

Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation)
Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, No Irritation)
Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane (High Strength, No to Low Irritation)

The Ordinary Antioxidants

You have 4 The Ordinary Antioxidants to choose from and we all need at least one antioxidant in our life. All of them except for the Pycnogenol have conflicts, so check all your other products before buying.

The Ordinary Acids

There are 8 different acids to choose from. The Glycolic Acid is a toning solution. The AHA 30% and the Salicylic Acid Masque are masques that should only be used once or twice a week. The rest you can use regularly but there are conflicts so you will have to alternate these in your routines depending on the other products you are using.

I highly advise not to buy too many acids. You should avoid using acids with other acids in the same routine as well as some of the vitamin c and peptides. Always check conflicts. Lactic Acid 5% is a nice acid to start with.

The Ordinary More Molecules

These three products are water based solutions which would be applied as one of the first layers in your regimen. Niacinamide is the only one that has conflicts to look out for. All these products are different products and many people have all 3 of these in their skincare stash.

Product Targets
Alpha Arbutin Hyper-pigmentation |Dark Spots
Niacinamide Regulates Sebum
Minimizes Pores
Caffeine Solution Puffiness | Dark Circles (Eyes)

The Ordinary Peptides

Everyone should add one of these in their baskets. Buffet is probably the most popular one to start with as it targets so many signs of ageing.

These peptides do conflict with other products (Buffet + Copper as the most conflicts) so be aware you may have to use these either in the morning or evening. Peptides shouldn´t be used in the same routine as other acids or pure vitamin c.

Product Targets
Buffet Signs of Ageing | Firming
Buffet + Copper Signs of Ageing |Firming
Skin Health
Argireline Signs of Ageing
Matrixyl Fine Lines |Wrinkles

Cleanser | Sun Cream | Hair Care

If you’re wondering about any of these products, you can check reviews in the Deciem Chat Room. The Squalane Cleanser is great!

The sun creams have mixed reviews as members have said they can leave a white cast, so check before you buy! The hair serum has some amazing reviews and then some not so great reviews.

The Ordinary Colours & Primers

Looking for the perfect shade foundation? Then have a look at our “Colour” file in the Chat Room which has lots of useful links to Foundation Matching websites and a photo album with all the members sharing their tones for you to see.

The primers are great too and my favorite has to be the Silicone Primer. My make-up has never looked so smooth or stayed on so long.
